1 x 60’ for BBC Radio 4

America’s leading political conservative, William F. Buckley, helped move conservatism from the outer fringes to the very centre of American political life. Waspish, provocative, infuriating, sometimes – but never dull. His weekly programme Firing Line became the world's longest running TV show with a single host. From 1966 to 1999 everyone from Presidents to poets, politicians and punks submitted to Buckley's weekly interrogations.

Michael Portillo mines the archives for the wit and political wisdom of the late editor, essayist and verbal pugilist and chat show host and presents some of Buckley’s most glittering exchanges with the leading politicians and personalities of the day.
